Inti Raymi
A Celebration of the Sun, the Earth, and the Blossoming of Ecuadorian Roses
A Celebration of the Sun, the Earth, and the Blossoming of Ecuadorian Roses
Inti Raymi, also known as the Festival of the Sun and Harvest, is a significant cultural event rooted in the rich heritage of the Cañari-Inca nation. Celebrated annually from June 17 to June 25 in Ingapirca, this festival honors Pachamama (Mother Earth) with gratitude for bountiful harvests and abundant production.
This tradition, steeped in music, dance, and vibrant celebrations, not only preserves the ethnic splendor of our ancestors but also has a profound impact on our floral industry, particularly at Naranjo Roses.
Inti Raymi symbolizes the deep gratitude of Andean communities for the generosity of Pachamama, which allows for a fruitful harvest. This celebration is marked by rituals, music, and dance, bringing together hundreds of indigenous groups from across Ecuador and other Andean nations. These rituals, performed with reverence and joy, are believed to enhance the natural fertility of the land, leading to better crop yields and, consequently, more vibrant and healthy flowers.
At Naranjo Roses, we have observed that our Ecuadorian roses flourish particularly well during the Inti Raymi period. The cultural and spiritual energy of this ancestral festival, combined with the optimal climatic conditions of the solstice, contributes to an environment where our roses thrive with unmatched vitality.
This flourishing is made possible by one of Ecuador’s most remarkable natural advantages: 12 hours of equatorial sunlight, every day of the year. Unlike other countries with limited daylight and growing cycles, Ecuador’s consistent solar exposure allows us to grow roses without interruption—producing some of the best roses in the world, known for their vibrant color, strong stems, and long vase life.
The gratitude expressed toward Pachamama through rituals and ceremonies deeply aligns with our philosophy of sustainable, respectful, and purposeful floriculture.
The Inti Raymi festival brings together elements that create an ideal environment for agricultural success. The synchronization of cultural celebration with natural cycles enhances the growth of our Ecuadorian roses, making them more vibrant and resilient. This connection to ancient traditions and the natural world is at the heart of our floral production, ensuring that our roses not only look beautiful but are grown in harmony with the Earth.
The geographical location of Ecuador offers a climate like no other. Its high altitude, mineral-rich volcanic soil, and year-round sunlight allow for the uninterrupted cultivation of premium Ecuadorian roses. Inti Raymi, occurring during this peak period of fertility and solar alignment, magnifies these benefits, helping Naranjo Roses produce what many consider the best roses on Earth.
Inti Raymi is more than a seasonal festivity—it is a living expression of Ecuador’s cultural soul. At Naranjo Roses, we are proud to honor our indigenous roots, recognizing that it is from these deep values and spiritual connection to the land that our strength grows.
We believe that only by being true to where we come from can we cultivate Ecuadorian roses that embody global excellence—roses that bloom not only with beauty, but with identity, heritage, and meaning.
By aligning our practices with both nature and tradition, Naranjo Roses continues to lead with integrity, sustainability, and cultural pride. From the heart of the Andes to the world, our Ecuadorian roses are a living testament to what it means to bloom with purpose.
